Wayne Dryer is Green Candidate for St. John Harbour

18 08 2014

Saint John – At a news conference today packed with local supporters, Green Party leader David Coon announced that Wayne Dryer will be the Green Party’s candidate in Saint John Harbour.

“With Wayne Dryer, the people of Saint John Harbour will have the opportunity to elect a principled and honourable MLA who will stand up for them, and for all New Brunswickers, just as Elizabeth Weir did so effectively. I am thrilled that Wayne is seeking to serve the people of Saint John Harbour, and that he is doing so as a Green Party candidate,” said Coon.

Wayne Dryer and his wife Kathy have lived in Saint John’s South End since 1983, where they raised their three children and became very involved in the life of the community. Mr. Dryer has served as the pastor at Germain St. United Baptist Church and is a partner in Thera-Ped, a long-standing Saint John business success story. In 2010, Wayne Dryer ran for the NDP in Saint John Harbour, coming within 130 votes of winning the seat.

A print of Tommy Douglas with the words ” Courage my friends, It’s not too late to build a better world” hangs prominently in Dryer’s campaign office.

When commenting on his move to the Green Party, Mr. Dryer said ” It is not me who has changed. I have voted NDP since I was old enough to vote. I ran as a candidate four years ago based on a respect for its strong history. The New NDP has chosen to move itself closer to the centre of the political spectrum and away from the principles on which it was formed. This is where I stand.”
